Further InformationEdit Edit

Named for the Syrian city. A burgundy-red C. annuum traditionally sun-dried, seeded, and crushed into coarse flakes with a small amount of oil. The resulting spice has a fruity, raisin-like sweetness with moderate heat. The Syrian civil war severely disrupted Aleppo pepper production, and much of what's sold now as 'Aleppo pepper' is actually grown in Turkey under the name Pul Biber.

How hot is the Aleppo?

The Aleppo measures 10,000–30,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), making it a hot pepper — roughly 4 times hotter than a jalapeño (which tops out around 8,000 SHU).
