Carolina Reaper

Bred by Ed Currie at PuckerButt Pepper Company in Rock Hill, South Carolina. A cross between a La Soufrière pepper from St. Vincent and a Naga/Bhut Jolokia type. Held the Guinness World Record from 2013 to 2023 at 2.2 million SHU. Recognizable by its deeply wrinkled skin and signature scorpion-like tail. Despite the extreme heat, it carries a fruity, almost sweet undertone that Currie specifically selected for. The name was inspired by the Carolina Panthers and the Grim Reaper.
