Brazil's go-to hot pepper. Small, tapered C. frutescens used in everything from feijoada to moqueca. Not to be confused with Melegueta pepper (grains of paradise), which is a completely different plant. 60,000–100,000 SHU. Every Brazilian kitchen has a bottle of preserved malaguetas in vinegar.

How hot is the Malagueta?

The Malagueta measures 60,000–100,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), making it a hot pepper — roughly 13 times hotter than a jalapeño (which tops out around 8,000 SHU).
