A landrace from Nagaland, Northeast India. Related to but distinct from Bhut Jolokia (which originates from Assam). India's NBPGR (National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources) catalogs Nagaland and Assam accessions separately. "Naga" refers to the Naga people of Northeast India. Both belong to the same C. chinense × C. frutescens hybrid lineage documented by Bosland & Baral (HortScience, 2007), but represent different regional selections with somewhat different heat profiles.
