Bred by Dr. Nakayama at NMSU and released in 1975. Holds the Guinness record for longest chile pepper — pods can reach over 13 inches. A mild New Mexico type (500–2,500 SHU) used extensively for roasting. Named after Jim Lytle, a farmer in Mesilla Park who worked with NMSU on field trials. The most commercially important NuMex release. Also listed as Big Jim Heritage.
