The small but fierce African Bird's Eye pepper, fundamental to Portuguese-African cuisine. The name comes from Swahili. Mozambique and Angola are primary sources. The popular Nando's restaurant chain built its entire brand around piri piri sauce. Typically 50,000–175,000 SHU. Also spelled Peri Peri — same pepper, different transliteration.
