Further InformationEdit Edit

CARDI stands for Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute, the regional agricultural body for the Caribbean. This accession was sourced from CARDI's germplasm collection in Trinidad and Tobago. It is distinct from both the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T — tested at approximately 800,000 SHU by the NMSU Chile Pepper Institute. "Scorpion" peppers take their name from the pointed tail resembling a scorpion's stinger.

How hot is the Trinidad Scorpion CARDI?

The Trinidad Scorpion CARDI measures 500,000–1,200,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), making it a superhot pepper — roughly 150 times hotter than a jalapeño (which tops out around 8,000 SHU).
