The mother of all domesticated peppers — or close to it. A wild C. annuum var. glabriusculum native to the Sonoran Desert and throughout Mexico. Tiny, round, fiercely hot pods that grow on perennial shrubs. Protected under Mexican law as a wild-harvested crop. The only chile pepper native to the United States. Called 'the mother of all peppers' by some researchers. Also listed as Chiltepín Red. Dwarf selection. Wild-type selection.
