Peru grows all five domesticated species side by side: ají amarillo and ají limo in C. baccatum, rocoto in C. pubescens, charapita in C. chinense, and a long list of landraces the national agricultural institute still collects. C. baccatum and C. pubescens were both domesticated in the Andes.
