The Aji Perù is a hot chili of the species C. baccatum, measuring 10,000–50,000 SHU — roughly 6× hotter than a jalapeño. It belongs to C. baccatum, the South American "ají" species, known for tall plants and bright, fruity, often citrusy flavor. Its pods take a long/tapered form, measure 3–4 inches long, with thin flesh, and grow pendant on the plant. The plant grows to 42–48 inches tall. Its flowers are white with basal spots, its foliage is green leaves. It is recorded as originating in South America. It is also known as Aji Peru.
