The Giant Peruvian Rocoto is a hot chili of the species C. pubescens, measuring 30,000–100,000 SHU — roughly 13× hotter than a jalapeño. It belongs to C. pubescens, the rocoto and manzano group — cold-tolerant plants with hairy leaves, thick flesh, and distinctive black seeds. Its pods ripen red, take an apple/blunt bell form, measure 3–4 inches long, with thick flesh, and grow pendant on the plant. The plant grows to > 48 inches tall. Its flowers are purple/violet, its foliage is hairy leaves. It is recorded as originating in South America.
